New Tropical Depression Targets Eastern Coast of Mexico

Heavy rains, strong winds, and rough surf will threaten portions of the eastern coast of Mexico due to a tropical depression in the Bay of Campeche. The depression will continue to move west and is expected to intensify to Tropical Storm Danielle late Sunday or early Monday.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for the coastal regions of Veracruz, from Laguna Verde to Rio Panuco. Tropical storm conditions will begin Monday with the main threat being heavy rainfall. Coastal regions can expect the worst conditions, with wind gusts, heavy rain and rough surf. For inland regions, rain will be the main concern. Totals are expected to range from 6 to 10 inches of rain, with locally up to 15 inches.

With heavy rainfall, flooding and mudslides are likely to occur, especially for higher terrain areas in Veracruz, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, Hidalgo and northern Puebla. Residents are urged to take caution Monday as flash flooding could become life-threatening.
