Cold fronts galore hit Western Australia

Three vigorous cold fronts hit the south-west of Western Australia from late last week until Monday.

Some of the strongest winds of the winter for this area were recorded with gusts of over 100km/h recorded in the far south-west of the state. Weather stations near Perth saw winds reach over 80km/h.

Tropical Indian Ocean Moisture

The fronts dragged a lot of moisture from the Indian Ocean across Australia.

Combining with a cold front hitting the south-east of the country, this brought about heavy rain to VIC and southern NSW mid week.

Snow top up for the Alps

A second cold front came through on Thursday delivering high winds and heavy snow to the snow fields. This event was nearly a repeat of the week before with blizzard conditions returning.

Wind blasts the south east

With a high over central Australia and deep low moving over the Tasman Sea, a pressure squeeze meant it was a blowy end of the week for the south-eastern states.

Sydney on Friday saw wind gusts of over 100km/h. Damage to buildings were reported with roofs being blown off buildings.

This comes after winds blew down a wallย in Sydney on Wednesday, killing a man and severely injuring another.
