Severe Storms Will Race Across the Great Lakes Thursday!

A squall line of severe storms will continue to move east and southeast across the Great Lake states today, accompanied by damaging winds and large hail.  Chicago will likely be spared, but Milwaukee and Detroit as well as portions of central Ontario could be in line for stormy weather through this evening.

Very high winds have been reported with the squall line this morning, up to 75 mph in Ashland, WI.  Although the line is only marginally severe late this morning, intensification is likely this afternoon as heating destabilizes the atmosphere.  Damaging winds will be common and a few places will see large hail up to 1.5″ in diameter.  The severe threat should diminish slowly this evening.  The risk of tornadoes is minimal for today and tonight.
