Tornado Threat Shifts to Carolinas & Mid-Atlantic Today!

The powerful storm responsible for damaging tornadoes in the Deep South on Tuesday has moved northeast with severe storms being seen from the central Carolinas into Virginia and Maryland. The most widespread threat will be destructive winds of 60-75 mph, but tornadoes and large hail will continue as well.

Western Winter Heat Wave Spreading East

After a much wetter-than-normal January across most of the West, especially from northern California up into the Pacific Northwest, a strong, stagnant ridge of high pressure has dominated early February weather, resurrecting the threat of drought. This dry heat is spreading east, bringing an extreme fire danger to parts of the High Plains.
