*** Breaking News *** High Winds to Affect Southwest Monday through Tuesday!

An approaching system will cause southwesterly winds to increase Monday morning from the high deserts of southern California up into southern Nevada, including Las Vegas. Gusts of 50-65 mph are expected through Monday night, locally higher on the mountain peaks. Winds will spread into northern Arizona later on Monday, and persist there through midday Tuesday.

Isolated Tornadoes Threatening the Central Gulf Coast

Storms are intensifying along the Gulf Coast this afternoon with some isolated tornadoes a definite threat.  Damaging winds will occur with severe storms over a larger area of the Mid-South.  Isolated cases of large hail are also possible, along with some localized flash flooding.  The severe storm risk will subside later tonight as the system moves east.

As El Nino Weakens, California’s Drought Continues

The historic El Nino that has been impacting weather patterns around the world since mid-2015 appears to be in its final stages. Satellites and sensors are showing the unusually warm waters in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean that make up El Nino are cooling, and the majority of computer models suggest a return to neutral conditions by June.
