There is an ongoing flash flood threat across parts of Texas through Thursday. Over the past few days some locations west of Houston saw a crippling 15+ inches of rain. According to CNN the flooding has lead to at least seven deaths and over $5 billion in damage. Already this rain event broke the wettest April on record in the Houston area.
It’s been 241 years since the ‘shot heard around the world’ rang out on April 19, 1775 in Concord, Massachusetts, setting off the American Revolution. The armed rebellion that pitted angry colonists against the ruling British Empire would continue for the next eight years. When the smoke settled, the colonies had their independence from Britain, and the United States of America was born. But the U.S. almost never came to existence. Not only were there strategic blunders made by the Americans, but there was also the weather. In fact, there were several winters that almost destroyed the American’s Continental Army. With the Boston Marathon now underway, Mr. MORECAST dusts off the old running shoes and looks into how weather has affected previous races, as well as what you can expect to see for the rest of this year’s run.
Hail in excess of 2 inches in diameter was produced by storms in western Texas Saturday. High winds and even a couple of tornadoes were reported as well. Sunday’s severe weather shifts into central and eastern Texas, where similar threats and flash flooding look likely.
