Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer and Mother Nature is heating up the severe potential in the central US. An isolated severe threat extends from the Dakotas through Texas as well as the Northeast. Here’s a look at what you could see today as you hit the pool or have a barbecue.
The latest model runs are favoring an elevated risk of severe thunderstorms in Texas and Oklahoma, with a low risk in Kansas, Nebraska and the Great Lakes. Keep an eye to the sky if you have any outdoor activities planned across these areas. Some of these storms could produce damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes in west Texas. Tropical Depression 2 is drifting closer to the Gulf Stream that may provide enough of a punch to develop it into Tropical Storm Bonnie just in time to influence South Carolina. MORECAST meteorologists are watching the situation carefully as we head into the busy Memorial Day weekend.
