A variety of severe weather is likely across northern areas of the Rockies this evening, and over the northern Plains through the night.
Hot temperatures and plentiful moisture combined with an approaching front will spark widespread storm development Friday afternoon across the South. Some of these storms will be severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts, with the most organized threat in Mississippi and Alabama.
The outflow from a morning squall line in the Northern Plains will spark severe storm development Friday afternoon. The most organized threat for damaging winds is expected along the Missouri River from eastern South Dakota and southwestern Minnesota into northeastern Nebraska and northwestern Iowa from mid-afternoon through early evening.
