A squall line of severe storms will continue to move east and southeast across the Great Lake states today, accompanied by damaging winds and large hail. Chicago will likely be spared, but Milwaukee and Detroit as well as portions of central Ontario could be in line for stormy weather through this evening.
Above average temperatures are expected across a large portion of the central US through the weekend. Heat indices could top out as high as 120°F in some locations.
Isolated severe storms will be likely across parts of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest on Wednesday afternoon and evening. North Dakota and northern Minnesota could see more organized convection into the overnight hours.
There will be two potential areas of severe storm escalation this afternoon into tonight, one from southern Iowa into northern Missouri and western Illinois, the other mostly in North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. Dangerously high winds, large hail, and possibly a tornado or two will occur.
