Unusual February weather continues for the Northeast on Saturday with a threat of severe thunderstorms.
The recent warm spell across much of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest has come to an abrupt end on Thursday. A major winter storm will drop more than a foot of snow with dangerous near-blizzard conditions in spots through Friday. To the south, severe storms are expected on Friday from the Ohio Valley to the eastern Great Lakes.
(Updated Monday morning to include wind threat)
More rain is expected through Tuesday across communities of northern California that have already seen an above average wet season. The additional rain will lead to flash flooding concerns, including in the area around the battered Oroville Dam spillway.
The same storm system that wreaked havoc in southern California on Friday is emerging from the Desert Southwest today. We’re expecting severe storms to spark late this afternoon into tonight over parts of the Southern Plains. Isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail will all be threats!
