Summertime Heat Fuels Dangerous Storm Complexes in the Plains

We’ve entered a typical summertime pattern of severe storms in the Plains. Clusters of storms forming in the late afternoon join together to produce a squall line in the evening. These “mesoscale convective systems” or MCS’s can pose a major high wind threat, often well into the overnight hours.

July Tropical Climatology

So far this year, the Atlantic Basin has been mostly quiet of tropical systems. As we head further into the month of July, the threat for tropical disturbances gradually increases as environmental conditions becomes more favorable.
