Tropical Storm Fiona has maintained intensity today, moving northwest over the open Atlantic. No threat is posed to land in the next few days, however great uncertainty exists about Fiona’s eventual destination, and a landfall for Bermuda or even the US East Coast can’t be ruled out of the question next week and beyond.
Summer 2016 has brought on the heat with record high temperature being broken across the country. A strong cold front will usher in some cool relief for parts of the Plains and Northern Rocky Mountains later today through the weekend, with temperatures greater than 20 degrees below average for this time of year possible!
Sizzling heat is expected again on Friday and Saturday with more daily max temperature records in danger. The ridge of high pressure mainly responsible for the heat will start to break up Sunday, allowing temperatures to cool off somewhat heading into next week.
A low pressure system tracking over the Dakotas will bring a chance for severe storms across portions of northern Plains and upper Midwest Thursday.
