Severe storm cells have been producing dangerously large hail today. A report of baseball-size hail came in from near the Tennessee-Mississippi border within the past hour! Large hail will continue to be most common threat, but damaging winds and even isolated tornadoes could occur as well.
A compact but powerful system will emerge over the Plains Sunday, sparking severe storm development from Texas to Kansas. Central Oklahoma will be ground zero starting mid-afternoon. Expect very large hail, potentially exceeding three inches in diameter, along with damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.
Friday night’s severe storm outbreak should weaken somewhat early Saturday morning. However, the atmosphere will destabilize again on Saturday as the system moves east. Watch for high winds, large hail, and perhaps an isolated tornado or two over parts of the Mid-South on Saturday afternoon and early evening.
A strong low pressure system will slide east out of the southern Rockies today. It will find enough Gulf moisture over the Plains to produce a severe storm threat later this afternoon. Some isolated tornadoes are expected, especially from eastern Texas and Oklahoma into parts of Arkansas and Louisiana.
