All-Time Record Heat Across Southwest

Las Vegas, NV tied their all-time record high temperature of 117°F Tuesday! Many other US cities saw daily record high temperatures and this heat is expected to continue through the week.

Discussion:

A large and persistent area of high pressure continues over the Southwest.

Locations through the southern deserts of California and southwest Arizona exceeded 120°F on Tuesday (dashed in yellow below). Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas all broke daily high temperature records, with Las Vegas tying their all-time hottest temperature of 117°F!

The lower deserts will soar into the mid and upper 110s for much of the week, with the hottest locations topping out around 120°F! Very dry conditions will also accompany the heat as the humidity stays below 10% during the afternoons.

Record Temperatures:

The potential for more record-breaking heat will persist this week. Tucson’s all time hottest temperature of 117°F was recorded June 26th, 1990. There is potential for this record to be tied or broken this week.

When Will The Heat End?

High pressure will break down by early next week, bringing well-above average temperatures down to a more seasonable level. Remember, though, this is the Desert Southwest at the end of June, where your average temperature is around 100°F!
