The 5 water sports for this summer

Summer has finally arrived, as have the first heatwaves. The only bad news is that outdoor sport is more misery than pleasure.

The best solution is to choose a water sport that you can really enjoy while cooling down at the same time. We’d like to show you some of our favourites that you can try, and not just at the seaside.

Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding is best described as a combination of surfing, snowboarding and water skiing. With a bit of training, you can perform metre-high jumps and impressive tricks. Surfing is just as cool but you can wakeboard on almost any body of water suitable for motorboats. Many lakes and rivers also have their own wakeboard lifts.

Whitewater rafting

Rafting has been known and loved in our part of the world for ages. In a nutshell, all you need is an inflatable boat, the “raft”, and a river to float it on. Given professional guidance and mostly in groups, rafting is almost like a roller coaster ride in nature. The motto: the wilder the water, the better!

Stand up paddle boarding

If you don’t have wind or waves to go surfing, stand up paddle boarding is a good alternative. This relatively new sport is quite easy to learn because the paddler just stands on a surfboard and moves smoothly forwards using the paddle – if you manage to find the right balance. It’s less about action and more about relaxation and training for body and soul.

Diving

With diving, too, the appeal has less to do with action-packed adventure and more with discovering new worlds. The sensation of weightlessness, countless forms of marine life and sunken objects are just waiting to be discovered. Snorkelling and freediving can certainly be exciting but if you really want to feel like a fish in water, you’ve just got to try scuba diving.

Flyboarding

If you’ve always wanted to fly using a jet pack or hoverboard, then flyboarding is here to make your dreams come true. With a flyboard, you can float over the surface or whiz through the water like a dolphin. Nozzles under the flyboard, which are propelled by the thrust of a water jet from a jet ski, can propel you up to 9 metres into the air or under water. An incredible feeling!
