Sicily combines a mild climate, sites steeped in history and exquisite culinary delights in a single location. That’s why the island is a favourite destination for tourists all year round.

Preparation

Every successful trip starts with good preparation. After the travel plans have been organised and the hotel booked, there’s still time to discover the holiday destination virtually or from a guide book. For current weather information, just click on your Morecast app (LINK) and select Palermo, Catania, Syracuse or your actual destination. Comprehensive forecasts incl. graphs make planning your holiday easier. But now it’s high time to present our recommendations for Sicily.

Mt Etna

The highest volcano in Europe reaches up more than 3,000 metres and is still active. It is close to the city of Catania. This popular tourist spot also has very good transport access. A road and a train line take you to Etna. The volcano itself is reached by funicular railway and off-road buses.
Don’t forget: be sure to take some photos and publish the best weather moments in our Morecast community.

San Vito Lo Capo

If, instead of investigating an active volcano, you’d rather relax on the beach, the Morecast team recommends the beach at San Vito Lo Capo. Located in the north-west of the island, it is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily. The mountains picturesquely framing the beach are most impressive.

Riserva Naturale Orientata dello Zingaro

More than 650 kinds of plants and animal species are waiting for you to discover them in this nature reserve. Follow the rails through the reserve and enjoy your breaks on beautiful beaches with crystal-clear water.

Palermo

The capital city of the region impresses you with its variety of architectural treasures and history and is the tourist centre of the island. A visit to the Teatro Massimo is a must for those interested in culture. The opera house, built in the Historism style, is the third-largest such building in the world. If you think you recognise it, you’re right! The closing scene in “Godfather III” was filmed in the Teatro Massimo.

Ancient city of Segesta

About 50 kilometres from Palermo is the ancient city of Segesta. An amphitheatre and a temple in the Greek style await you there. The temple, which was never completely finished, is located on a hill redolent with sweet fennel and offering stunning views.
