Slow Down! Wet Commute for the I-95 Corridor Friday

Rain winds down through the Great Lakes region, but takes aim at the Eastern Seaboard to round out the week.

Rain Finishing Up

Rain will continue through the Lower Great Lakes and Ohio Valley region through tonight. Another 1-3 inches of rain across this region could lead to additional flooding.

I-95 Rain

The system producing flooding rains through the middle of the country will push east tonight. By early Friday, moisture from the Atlantic will combine with this system to produce drenching rains along the eastern seaboard, including the I-95 corridor. Friday morning’s commute will be hampered by rain through the major cities of DC, Philadelphia, New York City, and Hartford.

Persistent rains will continue across these locations for much of the day, shifting north with time. By Friday evening’s commute, the major cities of Providence and Boston will be battling the rain.

Many of these locations will see a couple inches of rain, with localized areas seeing four or more inches. Be cautious of ponding water on roadways and localized areas of flooding in the hardest hit locations.

The Weekend

Eastern New England and adjacent Maritime Canada will continue to see rain on Saturday, but much of New England will be drier than Friday. The main system causing this rain, however, will linger across the Northeast for several days. This will cause sporadic, generally light, rain showers across the Northeast throughout the weekend.
