On the 7th May 2017 at 11 GMT it’s that time again!Amateurs as well as professional runners will compete against “Catcher Cars” at the fourth “Wings for Life World Run” in 58 countries at 111 locations around the world. Everywhere at the same time, no matter if it’s day or night, rainy or sunny, the race is on! This makes the Wings for Life run the biggest charity event in the world.

In this unique global event, every single participant needs to take into account one important variable: The weather. The 25 venues all over the world are spread in almost every climate zone. Accordingly the „Wings for Life World Run“ is also a global weather event. To be perfectly ready for the weather at every location, the weather app Morecast supports athletes all over the world with precise weather information before, during and after the run.

Weather is important

The importance of the weather becomes even more apparent, when looking back at the start of the event in 2014: Runners in Haryana, India had to tackle extreme heat with temperatures of 40 C (104 F). It is, therefore not surprising that the winner there „only“ made 41 kilometers before the catcher car overtook him. For comparison, the best global result back in 2014 was an incredible 79 kilometers. On the same day it was a completely different story in Saskatoon, Canada, where athletes were well advised to wear hats and gloves with temperatures around -2 C (28,4 F).
