*** WEEKEND FLOOD THREAT *** Plains to Midwest Will See Torrential Rainfall Through Monday!

A slow-moving system will funnel rich Gulf moisture north, interacting with a nearly stationary front. Slow-moving storms will tend to produce extended periods of tropics-style rainfall. Flash flooding will be a major, widespread concern, with river flooding possible in the longer term.

We’re expected rounds of severe storms both Friday and Saturday over portions of the Plains and Midwest. Locally heavy rain will continue even when the severe risk slackens. Expect five to locally ten inches of rainfall in the heaviest band, including the St. Louis metro area. A wide area will see rainfall of 2-5 inches with at least localized flooding.

Drainage from the weekend rainfall will eventually lead to at least minor river flooding, including on the Mississippi, later this week.

We’ll continue to issue updates as needed over Twitter and Facebook. Exercise caution, especially if you’re driving through this area this weekend!
