After severe weather in the south Wednesday, the system shifts towards the north, targeting the Delmarva region. With lingering storms from yesterday’s system, severe weather is expected Thursday morning into the afternoon.
An unstable atmosphere with significant wind shear will cause numerous thunderstorms to trigger along a cold front. Hail and isolated tornadoes are possible but the biggest threat is strong wind gusts.
A tornado watch has been issued for eastern Virginia and North Carolina until 1pm EDT Thursday. Residents in this area should pay attention to local weather warnings and take necessary precautions.
Washington D.C and Baltimore are also at risk of severe storms, although the primary threat will be strong winds. This morning’s storms will continue into the afternoon, ending before the evening commute.
