A storm system will impact California and bring beneficial rains to some dry areas of the state. How much rain is possible and will it be enough to improve the ongoing drought?

How much rain could drought areas receive?
The western United States has been plagued by a drought for quite awhile, especially in California. Some much needed rain is poised to impact the state before the weekend.
Rain has been falling periodically in portions of Northern California since early in the week. Additional rain will begin to push further south and impact areas such as San Francisco and Los Angeles during the day on Friday. Expect rain to be heavy at times throughout the day Friday, especially along the I-5 corridor from Redding to Bakersfield. Traveling could be hazardous at times so taking extra time between destinations is highly recommended. Burned areas will see an increased flood risk with heavy rains.
