Despite the cancelled hurricane watch, heavy rain and hazardous swells will continue to impact the Hawaiian Islands.
Hurricane Lester has tracked further to the north of the Hawaiian Islands, eliminating the threat of hurricane force winds. However, impacts are still expected for portions of the island throughout Saturday.
Despite the cancellation of the hurricane watch, Hawaiians should still use caution today into Sunday. Heavy rains are still possible as Lester continues to track west-northwest. Coastal regions will see dangerous surf and residents are encouraged to avoid the ocean waters.
As the storm tracks to the northwest, Lester is expected to weaken and become a category 1 hurricane by Saturday evening. Lester will move further away from land by Sunday before it weakens into a tropical storm late on Monday.
