As the threat to Florida and the Gulf Coast from invest 99L, the subject of much hype over the past week, diminishes, focus turns to heavy rain from South Florida to the Texas coast.
The tropical disturbance – 99L – currently pushing slowly towards Florida, appears to pose little threat of becoming a tropical storm before reaching the Gulf of Mexico.
The system appears likely to bring heavy rain to much of the state, with South Florida expected to see widespread rainfall amounts of four or more inches over the coming days.

Forecast models remain in disagreement over the fate of 99L once it enters the Gulf. Currently, predictions are split between intensification into a Tropical Storm and no intensification at all. Either result will still mean plenty of heavy rain, however.
Looking further west, along the Texas coast, plentiful rainfall also appears likely with abundant tropical moisture in the region. Areas to the coastal side of Houston and south could see four or more inches of rain.
While the National Hurricane Center and other weather sources have been monitoring the area for tropical development, there is only a very small chance of an organized system forming.
For all potentially dangerous weather, keep an eye on government and local sources of weather information.
