Monsoon Storms to Flood Southwest

Heavy monsoonal rain and storms continues to bring an increased flood threat to the Southwest through Saturday.

The mid-level ridge that was centered over the south-central portion of the U.S. shifts to the east a little but it stillĀ  continues to pump ample moisture into the Southwest through the rest of the week. Storms will develop each day during the early afternoon hours and produce periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. The threat will diminish through southern Arizona and New Mexico through Thursday night. Moisture will push further North and cause the highest potential of flash flooding across southwest Colorado through Saturday. Storms could briefly produce rainfall rates of 3″/hour and drop 1-2 inches of rainfall in a very short period of time. Storms will diminish each evening after sunset. Multiple rounds of storms over several days will lead to areas of flash flooding, mudslides, and rockslides. Mountainous terrain will lead to fast-flowing water and caution is advised in these regions.
