The Opening Ceremony for the 2016 Summer Olympics is just a few days away! Athletes and tourists are gathering in Rio de Janeiro along the south coast of Brazil, where it’s the middle of the winter, but if you’re one of the late stragglers still packing for the trip, don’t bother to pack your parka. The MORECAST staff still foresees a lovely forecast for the early Games.
A ridge of high pressure is in command of the weather over Rio late this weekend into early next week. A cold front will approach for Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing a chance for a few rain showers, but heavy or prolonged rainfall does not appear likely. Partly to mostly sunny skies will take over again for the late week into next weekend. The weather looks beautiful for the Opening Ceremony with temperatures cooling through the 70s (low to mid 20s °C) under mainly clear skies! Temperatures through the week will be near normal with highs in the 70s and 80s (20s °C) and lows in the 60s (upper teens °C). The warmest period is expected for next weekend as the Games really get under way with highs topping 86°F (30°C).
We’ll keep issuing forecast updates for the Olympic Games through the next few weeks across our social media feeds (Facebook & Twitter). The MORECAST app also has all the forecast details you’ll need for your trip to Rio or wherever you’re going!
