A dome of high pressure that has been baking the Central U.S. recently has expanded east, bringing increasing humidity and dangerous heat to the mid-Atlantic urban corridor.
In particular, cities from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, PA, and New York City will be sizzling this afternoon with air temperatures nearing the 100 degree mark. Temperatures this afternoon will challenge daily records from 2011, but most communities will likely fall just short of breaking a record.

Heat indicies from Washington, D.C. up to New York City will range from 95-105°F this afternoon, with the highest heat indicies likely in the urbanized areas of Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington.
Sunday will be similarly hot, particularly across the Philadelphia and Washington D.C. areas.
