Fireworks enthusiasts on hand to see the big Fourth of July shows in the big Northeast cities may have to contend with rain marching steadily northeast up I-95. The nation’s capital is already seeing moderate rainfall with Philadelphia and New York City likely threatened later this afternoon into this evening.
Although there is some dry air to overcome, model guidance suggests that the shield of rain currently affecting the Mid-Atlantic will slowly but steadily move northeast, reaching Philly by 5 pm and New York City by 9 pm. This would be just in time to hamper the 40th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show, launched from the Brooklyn Bridge and barges in the East River, scheduled to start at 9:25 pm ET. However, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular (10:30 pm) should be good to go!
