Marginally severe storms will continue to move through portions of Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina, gradually weakening by mid to late evening. A few locations will see damaging wind gusts to 65 mph along with hail to 1 inch in diameter. Localized flash flooding will also occur.
The same system that caused tremendous damage over portions of Illinois and Indiana last night has weakened, however residual upper-level wind energy is combining with strong surface heating to produce strong to locally severe storms in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys as well as Virginia and North Carolina. These storms will shift southeast through the next several hours, weakening by late evening as surface heating diminishes due to the loss of sunlight.
