Record-Breaking Heat Likely Across the Desert Southwest Sunday to Monday

Temperatures are warm over the Southwestern states, and it looks likely that daily records will be broken once again over many areas on Monday.  Readings well in excess of 110° F will be common, with a few spots seeing temperatures topping the 120° F mark, threatening all-time record highs!

Sunday was the first day a potential stretch of 7-10 days worth of highs exceeding 110° F for many cities in the Southwest, including Phoenix, Arizona.  Monday’s projected high of 119° F in Phoenix would shatter the old record of 115° F and puts them in range of the highest temperature ever recorded at the official airport sensor there, 122° F in June of 1990.  Even if they were held to 120° F it would still be in the top three highest days ever.  The hot pattern will remain stagnant beyond Monday even if temperatures edge down a bit, and it could be the better part of two weeks before temperatures fall closer to normal values.

Selected Forecast & (Daily Record) High Temps for Monday, June 20th:
