Father’s Day Forecast

While Sunday is supposed to be all about fathers, it’s important not to forget about a certain mother who can assist or spoil any plans you may have for dad. Whether you’re taking him golfing, camping, to a ballgame, having a cookout or any other special outdoor activity, here’s a look at what Mother Nature has in store for Father’s Day across the U.S.

Fathers Day

The majority of the country will be dry Sunday, with two main exceptions: the Gulf Coast and the Upper Midwest, where scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible. Some of the storms in Minnesota and the eastern Dakotas will have a chance to be severe, with strong winds and very large hail the primary threats, so be extra alert if you’ll be with dad in these areas.

Storms along the Gulf Coast are not expected to be severe, but some pockets of heavy rain will be possible along the I-10 corridor from Beaumont, Texas to Mobile, Alabama, including New Orleans and Biloxi. Scattered storms are also expected across Florida as a cold front dives south through the Sunshine State.

While the rest of the country looks dry, several places will be sizzling in the early summer heat. That will especially be the case in the Desert Southwest, where the mercury will easily soar above 100 degrees, with much of southern Arizona and California deserts above 110. It won’t be quite as extreme in the interior U.S., but it will still be toasty, with highs in the 90s, so make sure to keep dad (and yourself) hydrated if outside.

The Northeast will be warm and sunny, with highs in the 80s. The Pacific Northwest will also be mostly dry (small chance of light showers in far northern Washington early), but it will be on the cooler side, with highs in the 60s and 70s.
