A compact area of low pressure will drop southeast from Michigan this afternoon to the mid-Atlantic tonight bringing the threat for a fast moving line of severe thunderstorms. Damaging winds with gusts in excess of 60 mph is the main concern with storms this afternoon and evening; however, an isolated tornado or two is possible within the ‘Elevated’ risk area.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Morgantown, West Virginia are a couple of cities that are under the gun for potentially damaging thunderstorms this afternoon as clusters of individual storms begin to congeal into more of a linear structure. The threat for severe weather will diminish for these two areas by the mid evening hours. Farther east, the Washington, D.C. area down toward Richmond, Virginia will see the best riskĀ for damaging wind producing thunderstorms this evening as organized storms are expected to move in from the northwest.
