Summer Heat for the Plains

Sizzling heat in the northern Plains Friday

After seeing a cooler start to the week, the Central and Northern Plains will round out the week with summer-like heat as the jet stream moves north and a ridge builds in.

The heat has started to build in over the region and the mercury will soar even further tomorrow pushing highs into the 90’s and even above the 100 mark for some locations on Friday.  The hottest temperatures are expected across central South Dakota into northwest Nebraska with Pierre, South Dakota likely sizzling over 100°.  Pierre will likely be one of the warmer spots but highs will still make it into the mid 90’s for cities such as Denver, North Platte, Omaha, Sioux Falls, Fargo and Minneapolis.  The warm temperatures are going to stick around for the weekend with highs staying in the 90’s for most.  If you are heading out to the lake or pool to beat the heat make sure to stay hydrated and bring the sunscreen.
