A trough moving across the Northeast will combine with very warm temperatures to trigger scattered, potentially severe storms.
Storms will be most widespread in a swathe from southern Maine to northeastern Connecticut this afternoon. With good amounts of moisture and modest instability, the primary threats will be damaging gusts and severe hail up to an inch in diameter.
As of noon EDT, scattered showers are already picking up in western and northern New York, as well as central Pennsylvania. The severe threat across these areas will be limited, though the Adirondack Mountains and Green Mountains could see some more robust storm activity later in the afternoon.
