DANGEROUS WIND-DRIVEN WILDFIRES THREATEN SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS TUESDAY

West to southwest winds are already on the increase for the Southern Rockies and adjacent High Plains. Low humidities and dry ground conditions will combine with winds gusting up to 65 mph to promote a dangerous wildfire risk later this afternoon, gradually subsiding later this evening.

Fires set deliberately or accidentally in this area will tend to grow out of control quickly and outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Blowing dust and smoke could produce dangerously obscured driving conditions for travellers along interstates 25 and 40, among others. Winds should subside fairly quickly by mid to late evening in this area.
