Isolated Tornadoes Threatening the Central Gulf Coast

Storms are intensifying along the Gulf Coast this afternoon with some isolated tornadoes a definite threat.  Damaging winds will occur with severe storms over a larger area of the Mid-South.  Isolated cases of large hail are also possible, along with some localized flash flooding.  The severe storm risk will subside later tonight as the system moves east.A large storm system responsible for heavy snow and ice farther north is drawing Gulf moisture up into sections of the Mid-South, which is combining with daytime heating to trigger strong to severe storms.  The risk is higher for tornadoes closer to the coastal moisture feed  – this threat area includes Pensacola, Florida.  Monitor weather radio or local news closely in case tornado warnings are issued in your area.

Over interior sections of the Mid-South, look for a chance of an isolated tornado or two but with a more widespread threat for high winds.  Large hail may occur but will be isolated.  We’ll continue to issue forecast updates on our Facebook and Twitter pages as needed.
