A storm system pushing through California has brought heavy rain throughout Friday and will continue into Saturday morning. Another rain system will then push into northern California Saturday afternoon.

Sacramento, CA: 1.35″
Los Angeles, CA: 0.47″
A low pressure system moved on shore this morning bringing a band of heavy rain which is currently making its way across California. This system will continue to bring heavy rain across the state with up to 4 inches in some locations and heavy snow in the Sierra’s and Cascades with up to 4 feet possible.
Conditions along roadways and passes in the higher elevations will be hazardous, and travelers are urged to use caution if driving along these routes. In addition to slick roads, there will be an increased threat for rock and mudslides. The heavy rain is also impacting air travel, with delays of up to two hours being reported at San Francisco International Saturday evening, according to Flight Aware.
As for southern California, heavy rain is also expected along with gusty winds and snow in the higher terrain. Flood watches have been issued by the National Weather Service with ponding and small mud flows looking likely.
Despite the heavy rain lately, the drought still persists in California. The United States Drought Monitor says in their summary that February is supposed to be one of the wettest months of the year for California, but that didn’t happen this year. So the rain will be beneficial in helping improve conditions across the state but much more is still needed to be rid of this ongoing drought.
