A series of storm systems started impacting California Friday, and will continue through Tuesday. The following are rainfall totals through 3 p.m. PST Saturday:
San Francisco, CA: Around 1”
Sacramento, CA: Received between 1-1.25”
Fresno, CA: Received around .30”
Before all is said and done, a widespread area of 1-3” of heavy rain is likely over coastal and central California. For higher elevations, heavy snow will be the main story above 6,000 feet. Snowfall totals upwards of 2-4 feet are likely for locations around Lake Tahoe and across the Sierras. In addition to the rain, strong winds above 30 mph will likely affect coastal locations and higher elevations.
Conditions along roadways and passes in the higher elevations will be hazardous, and travelers are urged to use caution if driving along these routes. In addition to slick roads, there will be an increased threat for rock and mudslides. The heavy rain is also impacting air travel, with delays of two hours or more being reported at San Francisco International Saturday evening, according to Flight Aware.
While southern California has been quiet most of Saturday, rain is expected to start Saturday night and continue into the day Sunday. If you are traveling to or from California over the next few days, expect delays.
