Snow has been falling all day in the Great Lakes region region of the US and is now beginning in southern Ontario. A low pushing the Northeast US will bring heavy snow to a large area from Michigan through southern Ontario and southern Quebec. MORECAST looks at just how much snow you can expect. A band of snow centered over central Michigan has been steadily intensifying throughout the day. As the low moves eastward tonight this snow will push further northeast into Ontario but not before dumping up to 7-10″ in Michigan with Detroit likely seeing 2″-4″. Snow totals for the entire storm can be seen below
This system is somewhat dependent on a band of very heavy snow along the back side of the surface low pressure. The exact placement of the heaviest snow band is still somewhat uncertain but current model guidance suggests that it will set up somewhere north of Toronto and extend very near to Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City. Toronto itself will likely see 15-20cm with heavier snow to the north. Ottawa will be the hardest hit and can see 20-25cm, but is within possibility of having banding set up that could bring closer to 40cm. By morning tomorrow the snow will be affecting Montreal, and there will likely be a sharper gradient of snow accumulation right along the St. Lawerence River, though 20-25cm is quite possible for the city itself. Snow will likely continue through most of the day Wednesday for Quebec City with a grand total of 20-25cm possible by Wednesday night.
