NFL’s Conference Title Games Escape Mother Nature’s Wrath

It’s down to the final four in the NFL Playoffs, and after Sunday, we will know the two teams playing in Super Bowl 50. MORECAST has a look at how the weather is shaping up for both the AFC and NFC Championship games on Sunday.

New England Patriots at Denver Broncos

Location: Denver, Colorado

Kickoff Time: 3:05 pm ET (1:05 pm MT) Sunday, January 24

The eastern snowstorm could have repercussions for transportation hubs across the country, disrupting the travel plans of Patriot fans hoping to make the trip on Friday or Saturday to see their team visit Denver. Although the Boston area isn’t likely to see the heaviest snows, some wind and snow will likely sneak up in that direction, and delays at neighboring airports will likely ripple towards Logan International. However, the Patriot fans that do make it will find more tranquil and relatively mild weather in Denver, albeit still with a threat for some light, wet snow. Temperatures at kickoff early Sunday afternoon will be around 41-43 degrees Fahrenheit under mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of a few light rain or snow showers, especially late in the game. Snow accumulation is unlikely, however.

Arizona Cardinals at Carolina Panthers

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina

Kickoff Time: 6:40 pm ET Sunday, January 24

A major winter storm will be moving across the eastern U.S. late this week into the weekend, giving the Charlotte area a glancing blow. Ice accumulation will be a threat especially on elevated surfaces around Charlotte Friday into Saturday, and fans traveling in and around Charlotte, especially those approaching from the north, should exercise extreme caution on roadways. Sunday evening will be brisk in Charlotte but winds should be light and skies clear as the storm moves well to the east. Temperatures at kickoff will be around 42-44 degrees Fahrenheit, cooling steadily to about 36-38 degrees by the end of the game.
