Wednesday
East Coast travelers will likely enjoy the best driving and flying conditions of the entire nation as a high pressure system keeps things dry from New York and Boston down through the Southeast. In the Northeast, temperatures could be seasonably cool, dipping into the 30s as far south as Philadelphia. A front approaching the central U.S. could lead to a few showers or storms for travellers in the Plains from Western Texas up to the southern portion of Minnesota and reaching as far east as Lake Michigan, although rain chances will be greatest on Wednesday night into Thursday.
In the Northwest and Central region, snowy conditions could cause treacherously slick road conditions for major thoroughfares through the mountains. A system is predicted to move through the area bringing snow and much colder temperatures to mountain ranges across the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies, eventually reaching the Wasatch range later in the day into early Thursday. Motorists using I-84 in Oregon, I-15 and I-90 in Montana, and I-80 in Utah should be cautious with snow expected to significantly accumulate near pass level. Northern and central California, including San Francisco and Sacramento, will likely see some rain showers, but heavy rainfall is not generally expected.
Thanksgiving Day (Thursday)
Nothing says Thanksgiving for many Americans like our traditional Turkey Day football matchups! In Green Bay, fans and players for the Bears and Packers could be in for a rather cool, showery day. A retractable dome will keep players and fans dry once they’re inside AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas to see the Cowboys host the Carolina Panthers, however fans tailgating outside or driving to the game may have to dodge some showers and storms, with the potential even for some severe weather. The front should stay well west of Detroit through much of Thursday but fans driving to watch the Lions host the Philadelphia Eagles may see cloudy skies and a stray rain shower.
Otherwise, snow will continue to affect portions of the Northern Rockies, perhaps emerging out across portions of the Northern Plains later in the day into Thursday night, although widespread, heavy snow is not currently expected outside of the mountains. A band of heavy rain with a few severe storms could break out from central Texas through the Central Plains and Mid Mississippi Valley.
Black Friday
Shoppers in line for Black Friday deals on Thursday night and early Friday will have to contend with heavy rain in the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Isolated severe storms may threaten some of these areas. Much colder air will rush in behind the cold front from the High Plains into the Upper Midwest, with some scattered areas of snow, especially for the Colorado Rockies, and prospective shoppers will need to bundle up tight, or maybe do their discount shopping online from the warmth of home. The Eastern Seaboard will remain dry and fairly mild.
